Do Your Part for Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October 2016
Oct 3rd, 2016 - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an entire month dedicated to raising awareness of the disease, lending our strength to those that have been afflicted, directly or indirectly, by breast cancer, and spreading hope to women everywhere.
While awareness of breast cancer has gradually increased over the past years, the truth remains that about 1 in every 8 U.S women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. Through Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) wants to give women more than just a fighting chance through education and early detection!
During the month of October, you can do your part to help raise awareness of breast cancer by:
1. Creating an Early Detection Plan
According to the NBCF, “an Early Detection Plan enables you to be proactive about your health by reminding you to do monthly breast self-exams and schedule clinical breast exams and mammograms.” Create an early detection plan for yourself, encourage your friends and loved ones to do the same, and hold each other accountable to the plan.
2. Share Beyond the Shock
Beyond the Shock is the NBCF’s educational resource about breast cancer, a “free, comprehensive, online guide to understanding breast cancer. It is a resource for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, a place for loved ones to gain a better understanding of the disease, and a tool for doctors to share information.” Spread knowledge and hope, to do your part for breast cancer awareness.
3. Fundraise, Fundraise, Fundraise
There is a myriad of different ways you can help fundraise to provide mammograms for women in need, for breast cancer research, to support survivors and their families, and more. You can show your support by hosting an event (anything from a concert to a wine tasting), participating in a race - check out your local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, hosting on online or social media fundraiser, or even becoming a brand ambassador. The NBCF even has a toolkit you can download on how to become a Catalyst for Hope, and fundraise for the cause.
Regardless of how you choose to participate, the important thing is that you help spread awareness of breast cancer, and the importance of early detection, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Corporate Caterer’s helps spread awareness through the incorporation of the pink ribbon into their cookies and brownies plates, and can help you do the same during your efforts throughout the month of October.
